DESCRIPTION

This track conrtains Course 103: Legal Frameworks in a Global Context and Course 104: Global IP Portfolio Management with focus on navigating and managing legal frameworks for brand protection

Learning Objectives:

  • List the various types of intellectual property rights, including trademarks and copyrights, relevant to brand protection.Identify basic types of intellectual property protections, as well as infringements and violations by bad actors that brands face.
  • Describe the role of the supply chain and illicit supply chain in intellectual property infringements online and on consumers and the economy.
  • Define the origin of intellectual property protection globally and at the national level. 
  • Describe the role of illicit trade and organized crime in trademark counterfeiting and copyright piracy. 
  • Identify the main sources of data for estimates of counterfeiting and piracy.
  • Identify what assets need to be part of the IP Portfolio, what entails an IP Audit and strategic planning in the context of the IP Portfolio.
  • Determine the fundamentals for adding assets to an IP Portfolio. 
  • Understand the fundamentals of registration and customs recordation of IP in an IP Portfolio for brand protection. 
  • Recognize the importance of proactive IP Portfolio monitoring, administration and management. 
  • Identify tactics for IP enforcement against bad actors.
  • Review the concept of guardianship of the brand involving various stakeholders.
